By now we’ll assume you’ve heard of The Canyons, Lindsay Lohan’s newest movie that sees her starring opposite porn star James Deen for writer Bret Easton Ellis and director Paul Schrader. When the film’s first real trailer came out, stylized as if it were a 1970’s grindhouse movie, it caught us off guard a bit. Now, the movie’s newest trailer makes it look like a 1950s film noir, and since we can actually hear the dialogue this time, it looks and sounds…well, just awful. We’re still not able to get a solid read on this because it’s so different from the last trailer, and who knows? This might all work out in the context of the full movie. But as of now…yikes. Huh? When American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis crafted the concept for The Canyons and cast porn star James Deen and Lindsay Lohan to play the lead roles, I certainly wasn’t expecting the final result to turn out looking like something from the 1970s. But I kind of like it, because most of the grindhouse movies we see these days (Hobo With A Shotgun, Machete, etc.) are highlighting the violent aspects instead of the sexual ones, and this project is sure to have its share of action between the sheets. You’ve probably heard that Lindsay Lohan is filming a movie with porn star James Deen. That’s all the headlines want you to know, but there’s actually a pretty interesting story behind this. American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis is teaming with Taxi Driver and Raging Bull writer Paul Schrader to make The Canyons, a noir story set in Los Angeles about five twenty-somethings and their “quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood.” We’ve got a poster for the movie (via FilmSchoolRejects) and the first trailer below, which is basically a love poem to the city of Los Angeles. It’s a gorgeous trailer filled with all of the Hollywood hotspots you’ve seen in the movies, plus a few more off-the-beaten-path type places that only locals would recognize. Check it out!

American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis has been a controversial writer because of his willingness to address sex and violence in a detached way, and he’s got a new noir mystery coming called The Canyons that’s set to start filming at the beginning of next month. According to his Twitter feed, he’s got Lindsay Lohan on board to star opposite porn star James Deen in the story of “five twenty-somethings and their quest for power, love, sex and success in 2012 Hollywood.” That’ll get your project some attention.
