Its the quiet before the storm, when it comes to this week’s collection of trailers. We’ll no doubt be seeing previews for next summer’s big name movies soon. Right now we’ve got a nice combination of TIFF submissions, some scares, and more.
.‘The To-Do List’
.
Aubrey Plaza stars as a high-school overachiever who decides to make up for all the kinky things she didn’t do in high school while she is in college. So she makes a list of many erotic things she has yet to try and sets off on a hilarious journey into getting down and dirty in The To-Do List.
.
Take-away: Make way for Aubrey Plaza, she’s our new leading lady!
.‘The Hole’
Director Joe Dante Brings us The Hole, which after premiering a few years ago at the Venice Film Festival will now see a U.S. release date. It’s another kid-centered horror adventure about the Thompson brothers who discover a hole in their basement that just needs to be opened. After they and a neighbor break the padlocks without considering it was locked for a reason, very strange things begin to happen.
.
Take-Away: Beware of the small girl with the black-eyes.
.‘About Cherry’
.
About Cherry is a coming of age tale that follows a young woman’s exploration of sexuality and herself. After being taken under the wing of a former porn star (Heather Graham), Cherry (Ashley Hinshaw) quickly begins to enjoy the lifestyle the money being in porn gives her while hiding the truth from those she cares about including lawyer boyfriend (James Franco) and her mother (Lili Taylor).
.
Take-away: Can James Franco be any more dashing as a successful lawyer? Or be in any more movies this fall? (keep reading!)
.‘The Barrens’
.
Stephen Moyer (True Blood) stars in Darren Lynn Bousman’s latest horror film The Barrens. When a family goes on a camping trip, father of two (Moyer) swears he begins to see infamous Jersey Devil in the woods. As he begins to lose his mind, his wife (Mia Kirshner) tries to get their family out of the woods. Whether it’s all in his head or he’s actually seeing the creature is unclear. Part psychological thriller, part creature feature, The Barrens is another horror romp that is not to be missed.
.
Take-away: Is the fact that he calls his son “Danny boy” a hint at some inspiration from The Shining?
.‘Passion’
.
Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace star in Brian De Palma’s Passion. The tension between both Sherlock leading ladies is incredibly thick in this remake of Love Crimes. More of a teaser, it intrigues audiences to check out this tale of love and revenge.
.
Take-away: It’s good to see the dynamic McAdams be bad.
.‘The Iceman’
.
Michael Shannon (Premium Rush) stars as notorious Iceman killer Richard Kuklinski who was convicted of killing over 100 men for various crime rings. The movie follows his early days in the mob until his arrest in 1986. This movie also stars Winona Ryder, an unrecognizable Chris Evans and James Franco.
.
Take-away: Chris Evans should drive an ice cream truck more often … or maybe that should be Chris Evans should drive an ice cream truck LESS often.
.‘The Company You Keep’
.
When a young reporter (Shia LaBeouf) uncovers Jim Grant’s (Robert Redford) past as a former radical fugitive, it jeopardizes his present life as a single father and civil rights lawyer. In order to evade arrest, Grant goes on the run to clear his name.
.
Take-away: Worth checking out solely for the stellar cast that includes Shia LaBeouf, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, Anna Kendrick, Nick Notle, Chris Cooper, Terrance Howard, Sam Elliot and Brendan Gleeson.
.‘The Sapphires’
.
Bridesmaids Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids) stars as a manager who plucks a small girl group out of obscurity and into a soul singing group called the Sapphires. Under his direction, the girls find audiences outside their native Australia and within Vietnam as entertainment for the troops.
.
Take-away: Who would’ve thought that O’Dowd knew a thing or two about soul?
.
And check out this documentary by Matthew Cooke about the realities of the drug trade with accounts by Eminem, Susan Sarandon, 50 Cent, and Woody Harrelson as well as top drug law enforcement teams.

First the trailers are great but what's more intriguing specially Passion director Brian De Palma. Also The Iceman looks like that could be something to really get some people talking. Another movie that was in production but now with the new trailer is The Company You Keep starring Susan Sarandon and Robert Redford. And the reporter staring Shia LaBeouf looks like this could be an hit. Another hidden gem could be from Australia "The Sapphires" it's trailer is also just as good and could be a film worth watching and could be a hit!!!
