Seems like the news is filled with horrific and sad stories all the time. But not us. We’re gonna focus on the good things that people are doing for other people, cause that is news too! Here’s what’s happening in Doing Good:
The Nashville musician community has banded together to help Chris Tapp, lead singer of local blues-rock band Cold Stares, who is battling cancer. On Thursday, August 16th the community threw a benefit concert for Chris and his family. The lineup included Jeremy Lister, Matthew Perryman Jones, Mark Huff, Thad Cockrell, Erin McCarley, Jason Eskridge, Jill Andrews, Betsy Ulmer, Maile Misajon and more. To read more, click here.

Do Something

The Do Something Awards happen on August 21st on VH1. Do Something honors the Nations best world-changers age 25 and under. The grand prize winner will take home $100,000. Celebrities Kristen Bell, John Cho, Olivia Munn, Will Farrell, and Harry Shum Jr. will all be honored for their charity work. Definitely tune in for lots of Doing Good.

Baseball enthusiast Charlie Sheen has decided to give $50,000 to the Cincinnati Reds community fund. Although unlike Marty Brennaman, who shaved his head for 20,000 in donations, Sheen got to keep his mane. To read more, click here.

Zach Galifianakis recently executive produced a feel good documentary called ‘Craiglist Joe,’ about a guy that travels across the country with the help of strangers that he meets on Craigslist. A lot of musicians are up in arms this week about the conviction of the Russian band Pussy Riot, causing a worldwide response in the music community. There is a petition circling to help free the women who have been in jail since March and were convicted to a 2 year sentence. CBGC , Sting, Angelique Kidjo, Natasha Bedingfield, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Anthony Bourdain, Patti Schemel of Hole, Bunny Carlos, Gogol Bordello and the Family of Joey Ramone have all provided their names in support. When news came out that Kristen Stewart had cheated on Robert Pattinson, his fans inundated him with flowers, chocolates, and stuffed animals. In an act of kindness Robert donated all of that loot to a local hospital, hoping to make others days brighter. To read more, click here.

It was only a matter of time before the glory that is Ron Swanson’s mustache did some more good for the world. Nick Offerman is donating the mustache to charity.
