Sunday was day three of Outside Lands, and it had arguably the best line-up of the festival with Fun., Franz Ferdinand, Jack White, Santigold, Skrillex and many more. I was determined to have a better day than the one before, so I put on pretty much every layer of clothing that I had brought with me and got a cab to eliminate the confusion in getting there. I also had two friends along for the day and found confidence in our numbers.
We arrived to the sound of Fun. playing the main stage. Although the crowd was smaller and slightly less rowdy than the day before, but that still meant 25,000 or so fans were swaying to songs from “Some Nights” and the lesser known “Aim and Ignite”. They finished with bang playing “We Are Young”, followed by a fantastic cover of the Rolling Stone’s “You Can’t Always Get what you what you want”, and then their album’s title track “Some Nights.” The day was looking good.
.
We munched on some BBQ pork sandwiches and an amazing slice of cookie pie – a giant pizza inspired cookie – while we waited for Franz Ferdinand on the same stage. The crowd was really getting into it by the second song (“No You Girls”) and we got to hear all of their favourties. The band also played a new track called “Scarlet and Blue” off their currently unnamed new album. I thought the show was so-so but have to note that everyone around us disagreed.
.
I then dragged my friends to see Amadou and Mariam, a captivating blind duo from Mali, Africa, but mostly because one of them is also called Mariam. My friends lasted about 10 minutes before ditching me for some Del Popolo pizza en route to Regina Spektor. Not sure I blame them. That pizza was bloody delicious. I was a little surprised by the size of the crowd that had showed up for the African group, but large crowds seemed to be the tale of the weekend and it made for a great atmosphere.
.
It was beginning to turn into another especially cold night, and I found myself alone, again since my friends had opted to see Jack White instead of my choice of Santigold. While killing time, I got a recap of the Sigur Ros show that I had missed the night before and was told that it was “A religious experience”. I was kicking myself for missing it but Santigold soon made me forget with a brilliant performance that had the crowd dancing the entire time. I loved her in our OneTwoWatch video and loved her on stage. She has such great energy about her.

Bloc Party was next, but I think the crowd was a bit tired by the time they hit the stage. They never seemed to get everyone into it, even covering Rihanna’s “We found Love” for a few bars to get the crowd going without much success. It wasn’t the set list I wanted to hear and was a little disappointing overall.
.
I headed over to see Stevie Wonder who capped off a great day by playing his classics and a few cool covers. It was the perfect way to end the night and I even managed to make my way back home with relative ease. Great festival and weekend. Thank you San Francisco!
