Maroon 5 Already Working On Next Album
By Emily Zemler • Jul 06, 2012 at 8:29 AM
.Maroon 5 have only just dropped their latest disc Overexposed but already the band is thinking about their next effort. Guitarist James Valentine told Billboard the group is highly focused and ready to get down to business on the new album’s follow-up.
.Valentine said, “I think we’re more focused than we’ve ever been, and all we really are interested in doing now is working on music. Usually we’d be on tour and have fun and come back home and use that time to make a record. Now I think we’re just at a point where we feel like there’s more music in us than that. I always have my laptop with my recording interface, and there’s usually always a few things I’m working on at any given point. So, yeah, we’re working on a lot of stuff.”
.When might these recordings see the light of day? Valentine added, “I think the next recording’s going to be ready a lot sooner than our previous records.” Which is good news if you are a fan of Maroon 5 and bad news if you’re not.
.Valentine also discussed the departure of Maroon 5’s original keyboardist Jesse Carmichael, who left the band in March for “spiritual healing.” Valentine told Billboard, “He wanted a break, and it’s totally reasonable. We’ve just worked really intensely ever since Songs About Jane came out, and he’s been playing music with Adam and Mickey since they were 13, so that’s 20 years of playing music with the same guys and he just wanted some time to do some other stuff.” Valentine did note that the band expects Carmichael to return for their next album.
.
.But don’t expect that follow-up disc too soon. Maroon 5 is heading out on tour later this month in support of Overexposed, which debuted at No. 1 two weeks ago. The band will hit South America and Mexico this summer and the Pacific Rim and Australia in early fall. They plan to play a North American tour later in the year.
