If you didn’t think it was possible for Katy Perry to break any more records think again because “Wide Awake” is now the pop star’s ninth #1 single at Top 40 and tenth consecutive #1 single on the Dance/Club play charts.

More importantly it seems as if Perry is part of a new crop of female musicians who are taking over music. If you don’t believe us consider the fact that Perry has just tied Rihanna’s record for the most number ones in the history of Billboard’s Nielsen Top 40 Chart.

Billboard added, “[Perry's] achievement is even more impressive given that while the chart launched the week of Oct. 3, 1992, Rihanna didn’t first grace the list until 2005 and Perry didn’t arrive until 2008. Of the acts with the most Mainstream Top 40 number 1s, the top seven are women. After Katy and Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Pink and Britney Spears each have seven lead­ers, while Beyoncé and Mariah Carey fol­low with six apiece.”

“Wide Awake” was written for Perry’s 3D feature film Katy Perry: Part Of Me and comes from her album Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection.
