Since the news of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise’s divorce broke, there’s been an avalanche of reports and rumors about one of the most high profile and highly secretive Hollywood marriages in recent years. To help you keep track of everything that’s been reported, we’ve compiled an update:

- The couple had not been seen together publicly for several months. Katie recently moved into a New York City apartment and filed for divorce in New York, as it’s more likely for divorce rulings to be in her favor (Scientology doesn’t have the same pull in New York as it does in California). Not surprisingly, Tom plans to file for divorce in California.

- Katie’s primary reasons behind the divorce have been the protection of their six-year-old daughter, Suri. Starting at the age of six, children raised in the church of Scientology are required to participate in “security checks.” While Katie was accepting of her ex-husband’s religion as it pertained to their relationship, she did not want her daughter to be raised strictly Scientologist. Holmes is seeking full custody of their child.

- Both a Black Mercedes SUV and white Escalade have been spotted following Holmes for several weeks, leading to rumors that the Church of Scientology has been keeping her under surveillance as the divorce proceedings unfold. For the record, the Church of Scientology has stated such reports are false.

- As news of the divorce broke, rumors have been flying about the secretive (and potentially bizarre) nature of Cruise’s marriages and relationship with Scientology. Claims have been made that all of his marriages were arranged with contracts (including a payout for children), as his life has been controlled by Scientology to the degree that everything from his spouses, to his finances, to his home furnishings have been selected by the Church.
