The Red Hot Chili Peppers may not have a new album coming out any time soon, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t new music in the works. The group has announced that they will release 18 new singles before the end of the 2012.

The band, who has been touring extensively around the U.S., has been working on this new material while on the road. Bassist Flea tweeted this week, “yes we have been writing stuff while touring. we are also going to put out 18 new songs over the next 6 months on 7 inch and digi.” Some of the tracks are leftovers from the band’s 2011 album I’m With You, although it sounds like all the tracks will be new to fans. Drummer Chad Smith tweeted, “Over the next 6 months at leat 10 more IWU b sides I promise!”

There’s no word on exactly how these tracks will be released, although frontman Anthony Kiedis told fans at the band’s show in Grand Rapids on Saturday to “keep one eye open” for a “storm of seven-inches coming out over the next six months.” It’s unclear whether these seven-inches will be released individually or as a subscription collection, but stay tuned.
