  • Drake may release another album in 2010

by Emily Zemler Aug 31, 2010 at 5:22 PM

Is Drake planning to release another album this year? That seems to be what Young Money president Mack Maine is hinting at in an interview with MTV News. The news outlet asked Maine if Drake could have a follow up album to Thank Me Later out in time for the holidays, to which Maine said to “expect the unexpected.”

We’re not sure if Maine is playing with the fans, but it sounds like Drake is already working on new material—both a new album and a mixtape, the latter entitled, It’s Never Enough. Maine said, “Drake’s crazy. He’s doing a mixtape right now. He called me one night, like 2 in the morning. He has the intro done for the new album. We was discussing dates where he should come back. That’ll be soon. And this mixtape, he’s gonna put that out quick. His formula is crazy. He works fast. I can’t give the secret away to the formula. He’s a musical genius. The way he and [producer] 40 put things together is crazy.”

  • Thrice plan to release new record next year

by Emily Zemler Aug 31, 2010 at 12:45 PM

We know 2010 isn’t quite over but we’re already looking forward to 2011. Why? Because Thrice announced over the weekend that they are working on a new record that will come out next year. On Sunday, after the band’s performance at Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK, the group tweeted, “Thank you, Reading. Despite a bit of weather, you guys topped Leeds. (Sorry, Leeds.) We’ll be back w/ a new record in ‘11, UK. Cheers!”

The band’s last album, Beggars, came out in August of 2009 so it’s about time for a new record. In an interview with Blare magazine in June, frontman Dustin Kensrue said the band members have been writing new music separately. He said, “We’ve been keeping track of all of our ideas and I think pretty soon we’ll go back into the studio and start writing and recording.”

  • Pete Wentz announces full Black Cards lineup

by Emily Zemler Aug 31, 2010 at 10:52 AM

After first teasing fans with speculation two months ago, Pete Wentz has finally revealed the full lineup for his new band, Black Cards. In a post on his blog, Wentz offered not just the members names, but their Twitter handles as well. It looks like the solidified lineup consists of himself, previously announced singer Bebe Rexha, drummer Spencer Peterson and guitarist Nate Patterson.

So who are these new members? Peterson is the former drummer of Hidden in Plain View, a Drive-Thru Records band who released two albums and disbanded in early 2007. Patterson is the former guitarist of The Receiving End of Sirens—who broke up in 2008—and has since played in The Dear Hunter and in Thrice earlier this year.

  • Justin Bieber remix with Kanye and Raekwon hits the Web

by Dan Hyman Aug 31, 2010 at 10:34 AM

We were already jealous of Justin Bieber (yes, you read that correctly) when we caught wind of the little man’s steamy photo shoot with Kim Kardashian. But now, the culmination of a Tweet-fest between JB and Kanye West has resulted in a Kanye-remix of Bieber’s “Runaway Love.” And wait, Wu-Tang’s Raekwon has joined the party, as well. This kid is just ridiculous.

The remixed track “leaked” to the Internet yesterday, and you can hear it at Hip-Hop Connection. We’ll get critical, and admit that it sounds a little bit rough. It’s a stripped down version of the Wu-Tang classic “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nothing ta Fuck Wit” with, of course, new vocals from Kanye and Raekwon, and Bieber, more or less, merely laying down the hook.

  • New on MySpace: Philip Selway video premiere

by Dan Hyman Aug 30, 2010 at 4:07 PM

Radiohead drummer, Philip Selway, in quite Radiohead-ish style, explores some dark and lonely times in the video for his gently plucked single “By Some Miracle” off his solo debut album, Familial.

    Check out Selway’s video here.

Check out other new single and video premieres at MySpace Music.
