Randy Granger is a "Southwest Americana" musician based in Las Cruces, New Mexico who blends Native American instruments, Percussion, the Hang drum by PANArt, Vocals and guitar into an original and unique sound of Americana, Ancient flutes and modern rhythms and melodies. An award-winning songwriter and recording artist Granger is a full-time musician with an active performance and touring schedule that is winning fans and recognition worldwide. Reviews comment on the innate peacefulness and stillness and clarity of his music and the high level of musicianship and entertainment in his performances. A natural storyteller and disarming educator he weaves tales and myths from the Native American, Hispanic and Anglo cultures including humor to engage listeners while executing virtuosity developed over years as a professional musician and musical journeyman. He has placed 2nd Native American flute competitions, shared the stage with R. Carlos Nakai, Michael Graham Allen (Coyote Oldman), Peter Phippen, Mark Holland, Skip Healy, N. Scott Robinson, Scott Augst and others. He is on the International Native American and World Flute Association’s compilation CD with world class recording artists like Coyote Oldman, Joseph Firecrow and others. He is a well know workshop presenter on the Native Flute and Hang drum and has over 500,000 hits on his YouTube video Channel. Both CNET’s Download.com and CDBaby.com have featured his music as “Editor’s Picks.” He had the honor of performing for the Centennial Celebration of the Gila Cliff Dwellings and headlines major Native American music festivals like the Casa Grande Ruins American Indian Music Festival at Casa Grande National Park in Arizona, Native Rhythms, World of Faeries Festival at the Gathering of Nations international Powwow. He was the subject of a short film produced by the New Mexico Music Commission’s “Southwest Sound” series which aired on KRQE in Albuquerque. He has performed at the New Mexico and Southern New Mexico State Fairs.

Granger has worked as the principal tenor for La Zarzuela De Albuquerque, Opera Southwest and as a paid choir member and soloist. He’s also taught guitar and drums as well as toured as a jazz drummer and singer performing at both Disneyland and Disneyworld.

Granger is the subject of numerous articles both in print and online as well as a regular guest on many public radio stations. His music is played on Hearts of Space, Soundscapes, Audiosyncracy and many other syndicated programs. His CD has ranked 12 on the New Age Reporter charts. He has published articles on using the Native American flute in Hospice settings and other subjects. His blogs on Blogspot and MySpace have a healthy readership. Randy is a published poet and active in the Las Cruces Open Mic scene.

A native of southeastern New Mexico’s “Llano Estacado” he is of Native American, Hispanic and Spanish descent. This blend, or mix, is referred to ethnically as a Mestizo. Through DNA testing he determined his Mayan, Apache and Athabaskan heritage along with a lineage all the back to India and the Persian and European Steps area. He is not affiliated with any American tribes as he has not been able to find his direct ancestor’s names on the Dawes Rolls. Nonetheless, he pursues this path knowing that all of his ancestors meet in his heart—and that is where the music is made.
