LAY DOWN ROTTEN ist eine deutsche Death-Metal-Band aus Herborn in Hessen. Gegründet wurde die Band im Jahr 1999. LDR spielen ausgefeilten und abwechslungsreichen Death Metal der alten Schule, schaffen es aber auch, moderne Spielweisen leichtfüssig zu verarbeiten. Vorbilder sind sicherlich BOLT THROWER, EDGE OF SANITY, HYPOCRISY, ENTOMBED, AT THE GATES und DISMEMBER, um einige zu nennen, aber auch US-Death Metal und einige Thrash-Varianten erhalten Einzug. Dabei findet man eine eigene Nische, die irgendwo zwischen Brutal-, Melodic-, Schweden- und US-Death angesiedelt ist. Beweglichkeit ist Programm - die Band spielt nicht immer wieder die gleichen Songs, wie so viele ihrer Genrekollegen, sondern ist in der Lage immer wieder etwas Neues zu erschaffen, ohne sich stilistisch zu verlieren oder zu wiederholen.

Biografie:
Nachdem erstes Material einigen begeisterten Musiker-Kollegen vorgespielt wurde, entschloss man sich im Mai 2000 aufgrund der guten Reaktionen und dem Spaß an der Sache aus dem Projekt eine feste Band zu formen. Im November 2000 wurde daraufhin kurzerhand die erste Demo-CD COLDER AS COLD mit vier Songs aufgenommen, welche ebenfalls sehr gute Resonanzen hervorrief. Es folgten die Aufnahmen für die zweite Demo-CD WAY OF WEAKNESS im Juli 2001 und nach zahlreichen Auftritten war man endlich soweit im April 2003 das DESERT INN Studio zu entern, um binnen zwei Wochen das Debüt Album PARALYZED BY FEAR einzuhämmern. Nachdem dann im Oktober 2003 das Album über das Label REMISSION RECORDS veröffentlicht wurde, begab man sich im Frühjahr 2004 auf die Grind'm'All Tour, die insgesamt zehn Dates in Deutschland umfasste. Kurz nach der Tour entschied man sich dazu, einen zweiten Sänger in die Band zu holen, um dem Publikum eine noch bessere Performance bieten zu können. Währenddessen konzentrierte man sich weiter auf das Songwriting für das zweite Album COLD CONSTRUCTED, welches im Juli 2004 erneut im DESERT INN Studio eingespielt wurde. Das Album schlug ein wie eine Granate. Die Metalpresse überschlug sich mit Lobenshymen und beflügelte damit die Band zu neuen Taten. LAY DOWN ROTTEN spielten so viele Konzerte wie irgend möglich, um das Album gebührend zu promoten, arbeiteten aber parallel dazu fleißig an neuem Material.

Im November 2005 wurde die Vorproduktion zum BREEDING INSANITY-Album abgeschlossen und so ging man bereits im Dezember wieder ins Studio, um den neuen Hassbatzen einzuprügeln. Dieses Album katapultierte die Band innerhalb kürzester Zeit an die Spitze des deutschen Death Metals und öffnete der Band völlig neue Türen. So folgte die Unterzeichnung eines Deals bei METAL BLADE Records, einem der renommiertesten Labels der Metalwelt.

Im Juni 2007 enterte die Band, nach einem Besetzungswechsel an der Lead-Gitarre und einem daraufhin gestärkten Lineup, dann erneut das DESERT INN Studio, um das METAL BLADE-Debüt RECONQUERING THE PIT aufzunehmen. Nach der Veröffentlichung im November 2007 und den mehr als guten Pressereaktionen spielten LAY DOWN ROTTEN ca. 100 Shows quer durch Europa inklusive diverser Festivalshows wie Summer Breeze Open Air, Fuck The Commerce, Party San, Neurotic Death Fest, Way of Darkness etc. Eine erfolgreiche Tour mit HATESPHERE, DISMEMBER und FALL OF SERENITY sowie eine weitere Tour mit u.a. NEAERA, CALLEJON, LEGION OF THE DAMNED, SONIC SYNDICATE und ANIMA folgten.

Im Dezember 2008 verschanzte man sich erneut im DESERT INN Studio, um den Brecher GOSPEL OF THE WRETCHED einzuspielen, der von der Szenegröße Dan Swanö mit einem brachialen Mix und Mastering veredelt wurde. Außerdem konnte man neben Dan Swanö die Death Metal-Helden Martin van Drunen (ASPHYX, HAIL OF BULLETS) und Marc Grewe (MORGOTH, INSIDIOUS DESEASE) für diverse Guestvocals gewinnen. Dieses Album überzeugte die Fachpresse vollends und es folgten zahlreiche Club- und Festivalshows wie bspw. auf dem Legacy Festival, dem Death Feast Open Air und dem With Full Force. Ebenso spielte man eine weitere, überzeugende Tour zusammen mit dem deutschen Death-Metal-Urgestein DISBELIEF. Rückblickend teilte man seit der Gründung der Band schon die Bühne mit fast allen Szenegrößen oder persönlichen Helden und konnte so seinen Ruf auch international ausbauen.

Anfang 2011 mussten sich LAY DOWN ROTTEN schweren Herzens vom langjährigen Gitarristen Daniel Jakobi trennen, der sich aufgrund zeitlicher Probleme, bedingt durch Beruf und weiterer musikalischer Verpflichtungen, nicht mehr in der Lage sah, all dies unter einen Hut zu kriegen. Allerdings konnte man bereits kurze Zeit später mit Daniel "Kensington" Seifert einen würdigen Nachfolger für den Posten an der zweiten Gitarre präsentieren.

Mit frischem Wind in den Segeln ging es seitdem daran, neue Songs zu schreiben, welche dann auch prompt im September 2011, zum wiederholten Male im DESERT INN Studio, auf Band gebracht und nun mit dem vorliegenden Album MASK OF MALICE auf CD gepresst wurden. Die Zeichen stehen Mal wieder auf Sturm!

LAY DOWN ROTTEN were formed in 1999 as a solo project by vocalist/guitarist Daniel Jakobi. He wrote the first few songs on his own, then deciding to carry on as a band. After showing his material to some fellow musicians, Timo Claas, Johannes Pitz and Daniel "Mini" Benner joined the band in May 2000, turning Jakobi?s solo project into LAY DOWN ROTTEN.

In November 2000 the group recorded its first 4-track demo CD entitled COLDER AS COLD, which was met with very good reactions. In July 2001 the band began recording their second demo CD, WAY OF WEAKNESS. Being a self-produced affair, the band took around 4 months to finish it. In September 2001 bassist Johannes left the band for work reasons. The band found a replacement in Uwe Kilian within the same month. In 2002 the group kept writing new material, motivated by the good reactions earned by their live shows and releases. Due to a lack of money the band couldn't afford to go into the studio during that year, so they kept rehearsing and saving.

In April 2003 the band entered DESERT INN Studios in Edingen, taking just two weeks to record their debut album, PARALYZED BY FEAR. After the album release through REMISSION RECORDS in October 2003, the band went out on the Grind'm'All Tour with Meatknife and Gorezone, spanning ten dates across Germany. Shortly after the tour the band decided to add a second vocalist to its ranks in the person of Jost Kleinert, with the intention of delivering a better live performance, and taking some weight off Daniel Jakobi's back in the process. After breaking Jost in, the band concentrated on the songwriting for the new album COLD CONSTRUCTED, which was recorded once again at DESERT INN in July 2004. The album had the impact of an atom bomb. The metal press went raving mad, motivating the band for new deeds. LAY DOWN ROTTEN played as many shows as possible in order to promote the album properly, while always working on new material at the same time.

In November 2005 the band completed the pre-production for the BREEDING INSANITY album, going back to the DESERT INN Studio as soon as December to lay down the rotten tracks. In addition to the regular CD the album was made available as a limited-edition double CD including three cover versions as well as two CD-Rom video tracks. The cover artwork of BREEDING INSANITY was done by Björn for Killustrations, who had already worked with the likes of DEW-SCENTED, ABORTED, DEBAUCHERY, OBSCENITY and AVULSED. The album brought LAY DOWN ROTTEN to the forefront of German death metal, opening entirely new doors for the band, one of them being the signing of a deal with METAL BLADE Records, one of the most renowned labels in the metal world.

Shortly after signing the contract the band started working on new songs again. During the songwriting process Daniel Benner decided to leave the band due to musical differences. Luckily, the band found a new lead guitarist in Nils Förster (WHEN SORROW ENDS) as soon as April 2007, who had already been involved in the studio work for BREEDING INSANITY, as well as stepping in at a few live shows in the past.

In June 2007 the band returned to the DESERT INN studio to record its METAL BLADE debut RECONQUERING THE PIT. Daniel Benner and Nils Förster split the recording of the lead guitars between them. After the November 2007 release and with excellent press reactions under their belt, LAY DOWN ROTTEN played around 100 shows across Europe, including various festivals such as Summer Breeze Open Air, Fuck The Commerce, Party San, Neurotic Death Fest, Way of Darkness, etc., a tour with Hatesphere and Dismember, and a second tour with Neaera and Legion of the Damned, among others.

In December 2008 the band ensconced itself at DESERT INN Studio again to record the new bonecrusher Gospel Of The Wretched, which was mixed and mastered by scene icon Dan Swanö. Death metal heroes Martin van Drunen and Marc Grewe, as well as Swanö himself, contributed guest vocals on the album. The reviews for the record turned out great. A lot of club and festival gigs followed (Legacy Festival, Death Feast Open Air, Full Force, a.o.). A successful tour with German Death Metal veterans DISBELIEF was done as well. By the end of the year LAY DOWN ROTTEN shared stages with all the big names of the genre and almost all of their personal heroes. They managed to establish their name both inside and outside their home country.

Early 2011 guitarist Daniel Jakobi decided to leave the band due to the lack of time the band demanded caused by his job and other musical projects. A replacement was found quickly, Daniel "Kensington" Seifert stepped in on second guitar and is so far doing a great job.

LAY DOWN ROTTEN started to write new songs right away, taking advantage of the "fresh air" their new band member brought into their rehearsal room. In September 2011 they entered DESERT INN Studio, where they already recorded their previous albums, and nailed down their new record MASK OF MALICE. Be prepared for a heavy Death Metal storm!

Hallo zusammen,

lange ist es mal wieder her, aber da bei uns die Räder auch nicht stillstehen
wollten wir Euch auch mal wieder ein Paar Neuigkeiten aus dem Hause LDR mitteilen.

Leider hat sich unser Daniel aus persönlichen Gründen dazu entschieden die Band zu verlassen.
Wir bedauern diese Entscheidung sehr, konnten Ihn aber auch nicht mehr umstimmen.

Ein neuer Mann an der Gitarre ist allerdings mit einem alten Kumpel von uns bereits gefunden.
Daniel "Kensington" Seifert schwingt ab sofort bei uns die Axt !!!!

Ein Paar neue Songs sind mittlerweile auch geschrieben und wir freuen uns schon
Euch bei der ein oder anderen Gelegenheit damit zu beglücken.

it´s a long time since we postet some news here, but time didn´t stand still and we wanted to give you some news again.

Unfortunately our guitarist Daniel quit the Band for personal reasons. We are really sorry for that, but it was his decision to leave.

But ... we already found a new guy for his job.
Our old buddy Daniel "Kensington" Seifert is on the axe now !!!!

We already wrote some new songs and we are pleased to present them on the one or another live-show in the future.

LAY DOWN ROTTEN wurden im Jahr 1999 als Soloprojekt von Daniel Jakobi gegründet. Die ersten Songs in Eigenregie waren geschrieben und er beschloss an dem Projekt weiter zu arbeiten. Nachdem er das Material einigen begeisterten Musiker-Kollegen vorgespielt hatte, traten im Mai 2000 Timo Claas, Johannes Pitz und Daniel 'Mini' Benner der Band bei und aus dem Solo-Projekt von Daniel Jakobi wurde LAY DOWN ROTTEN.

Im November 2000 wurde daraufhin kurzerhand die erste Demo-CD COLDER AS COLD mit vier Songs aufgenommen, welche sehr gute Reaktionen hervor rief. Im Juli 2001 wurde dann mit den Aufnahmen für die zweite Demo-CD WAY OF WEAKNESS begonnen. Da diese Demo-CD wieder quasi in Eigenregie produziert wurde nahm man sich etwa 4 Monate Zeit für die Bearbeitung. Im September 2001 verließ Johannes (Bass) die Band aus beruflichen Gründen. Ein Ersatz war mit Uwe Kilian glücklicherweise schon im selben Monat gefunden. Auch 2002 wurden fleißig neue Songs geschrieben, da die bisherigen Veröffentlichungen sowie die Konzerte der Band sehr gute Reaktionen hervorrufen konnten. Leider fehlte in diesem Jahr das nötige Budget um erneut ins Studio zu gehen, daher wurde weiter geprobt und gespart. Im April 2003 gingen die Jungs in das Dessert Inn Studio in Edingen, um binnen zwei Wochen das Debüt Album PARALYZED BY FEAR einzuhämmern. Glücklicherweise hatte man bereits im April 2007 mit Nils Förster (When Sorrow Ends) einen neuen Mann für den Posten an der Lead Gitarre finden können, der sich bereits an der Studioarbeit für das BREEDING INSANITY-Album beteiligte und auch schon als Ersatzmann live die Axt geschwungen hatte.
