Bio
A SHORT MASCHERA DI CERA BIOGRAPHY************LA MASCHERA DI CERA (MDC) took life in 2001 when FABIO ZUFFANTI (bass player with FINISTERRE and a lot of other projects) decided to form a group which could re-create the glorious tradition of the Italian progressive sound of the 70s. Zuffanti was joined by Finisterre keyboardist AGOSTINO MACOR and Finisterre drummer MARCO CAVANI, singer ALESSANDRO CORVAGLIA (who plays the role of Merlin in the "Merlin" rock opera) and flute player ANREA MONETTI (ALHAMBRA, KU, EMBRYO). Zuffanti and Macor worked together on the music of the "La Mashera Di Cera" suite (the first song composed by Zuffanti in 1991) and three other songs that would form the concept of the first record. In May, 2002, "La Maschera Di Cera" was released on Mellow Records and became a great succes. The press called the cd "the best Italian prog album from ALPHATAURUS" (whose 1973 release is considered a classic of the Italian progressive scene). During the spring and summer the group played many concerts in Italy and in September started recording songs for a new album. Their second album entitled "Il Grande Labirinto" came out in March, 2003, also on Mellow records, and continued the refinement of the band's sound. In April, MAURIZIO DI TOLLO took over the drum chair, and from June through October MDC played acclaimed shows in Italy, Portugal, Belgium and Switzerland. September saw MDC sign with the IMMAGINIFICA label, directed by PFM's drummer FRANZ DI CIOCCIO. MDC continued to play in Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Belgium. The audio of their performance at the "Spirit Of 66 Of Verviers" festival in Belgium came out in 2004 as their first live album, included as part of the DVD release "GOUVEIA Art Rock 2003," a concert film of a performance from Portugal. In March, 2005, LA MASCHERA DI CERA began recording their third studio album, produced by Franz Di Cioccio. The recording sessions and the mixing were finished in September. While waiting for the album's release, the group played concerts in Italy and Belgium where their live performances over the years had created a great number of passionate fans that followed the band's gigs. The new album, "LuxAde," was released in March, 2006, on Immaginifica Records and MDC played concerts in Italy, Belgium and France. In 2007, MDC played their first show in the United States at NEARfest with great success, and followed up with a tour of Italy that summer. By the end of the year the band was busy composing for their next studio album. 2008 was largely a year of rest for MDC, but they continued to work on their fourth studio album and played at the PROGSUD festival in Marseille, France. In 2009 MATTEO NAHUM joined the band as guitar player. The new album is call PETALI DI FUOCO and will be out on April 9,2010 on Aeeostella/Edel label -
