About Life Line Project

THE MUSIC OF "LIFE LINE PROJECT":

Perfectly played and well balanced symphonic progressive rock.
Excellent arrangements, making full use of all instruments in the band. Superior vintage keyboard parts and virtuoso guitar-soloing are juxtaposed to subtle flute and oboe melodies,
all supported by a solid and dynamic rhythm section.
Tending a bit towards jazz-rock on the instrumental albums "Modinha" and "The Finnishing Touch" and reaching a high level of solid melodic symphonic rock in the epic "The King",
using both subtle and agressive vocals.

ABOUT "LIFE LINE PROJECT" 1988 - 2008:
After BRANCARD (1979 - 1989) and ZOUNDWORKS (1982 - 1985) keyboard-player/guitarist Erik de Beer decided to start his LIFE LINE PROJECT, a project in which lots of different singers and musicians participated. Many of their products were highly acclaimed in the European progressive rock magazines an fanzines. Most of the material was played in live performances by several different line ups, while some of their songs were even covered by other bands. In the period 2004 - 2006 their most impressive symphonic rock epics "The Journey", "DUPLO" & "The King" were re-recorded with complete new line-ups and in new improved arrangements. With the "Finnishing Touch" (rel. 2008) the epic symphonic rock style was changed into a more fusion-like blend of instrumental melodic symphonic rock with jazz-rock, folk-rock & metal elements.
"Modinha" was conceived in the same style with bombastic virtuoso keyboard playing, high-speed melodic guitar-solo's and some terrific virtuoso drumming, while the flute & oboe parts add to the more folk-like and classical elements.

About "Distorted Memories"

As usual in this band, "Distorted Memories" has a unique an original sound but with great respect for Symphonic Prog of the 70's.

- The album begins with the short but frenetic "Ignition", a 49 seconds intro that announces that LIFE LINE PROJECT is going to hit us with all they have, an impression that is corroborated by the explosive "Distorted Memories", in which Erik and his fluid electric piano is complemented brilliantly by Josine Fraaij and her magical violin.
- "Life Line Suite" is a track that has everything a Prog listener will expect, melodic but elaborate music, radical changes, dramatic executions and again strong and vibrant passages. Even when the attention is always focused in the keyboards, this time with the guitars and
Elsa de Beer on the flute make of this piece of music a memorable one.
- "Frozen Heart" is a softer song in which Marushka Kartosonto appears.
- "Caelum Aurum" is a track that starts with a delicate acoustic guitar and morphs into an oriental influenced piece of music (enhanced by a strong guitarist and a mini orchestra).
Prog, Heavy Rock, Folk and a bit of Jazz can be found in this piece, with an elaborate bass section by Iris Sagan and a breathtaking violin execution.
- "Interlude" works as a moment of relief, the acoustic guitar and atmospheric mood are absolutely relaxing, There is an almost instantaneous connection with he vibrant and strong Moog dominated "Reaper of the Keys".
- "P.C. Left is Right" starts mysterious and haunting, with the oboe providing a nostalgic mood, but again after a couple minutes it morphs into a Hard Prog oriented track with passionate vocals.
- "Acoustic Spring" is another soft acoustic interlude, but this time with a Medieval atmosphere provided by the flute and mandolin, relaxing and a moment to breath before the energetic "Steam Roller" in which Erik de Beer bombards us with several keyboard passages all supported by Ludo de Murlanos and his powerful percussion.
- "The Final Word" is a dramatic 13+ minutes epic where Marushka Kartosonto gives a heartbreaking vocal interpretation.
- "Distorted Memories" ends with the Medieval/Early Baroque inspired "The Dancing Dutchess". The combination of Harpsichord, Moog and Synths is fascinating.

About "The King"

My first attempt to write “The King” was back in 1978. Not many of the musical ideas of that period survived in the 2006-version (mainly the oboe-theme in “World Of Steel”, a part of “Finale” and the song “Defeat”). In this 1978-version I had the Rumanian leader Ceausescu in mind. After other versions in 1983 & 1990, during which the King grew steadily, I arrived at this 2006-version in which many may think to recognize George W. Bush. Unfortunately madmen like the King, ready to use the world for their own lust of power and who are even prepared to destroy the world if they don’t get their way, are of all times. Likewise there will always be religious dickheads ready to lead the way in poisoning the minds of credulous people in order to make them murderers and martyrs for their own perverted and sick ideas. It will be up to us, the common people, to stop following this sort of conceited idiots and to stop thinking, that we could be the chosen ones, to the disadvantage of the non-chosen ones, who are to be damned by a manmade evil sort of God at the service of our own jealousy. Every person deserves equal and mutual respect and every form of glorification is fundamentally wrong, because it will murder the God we say we love.

Furthermore we added “Is This The End” to this official release of “The King”.

About "The Finnishing Touch"

This is the re-mastered version of “The FINNISHING TOUCH”. For this official release some of the songs have been remixed, while three new tracks have been added.
The main theme on this album is built rather freely around the charming anonymous melody of
a sad Finnish folksong. The harmonisation of the song is made by me, thus leaving me all possibilities to change it to the different styles of music. We have made it a classical piece, jazzed it up a little, made it a synthesizer piece, turned it to melodic metal and finally ended it in a happy folk-dance. On this album we have mixed jazz-rock to symphonic rock, trying to create a dynamic sound. Apart from the new compositions we also recorded some oldies like Little Alice & I Miss You More, both performed in the early eighties by power-rock trio BRANCARD. The songs Without Tears, The Missing Drink & the bonus-track Desire are taken from the ZOUNDWORKS repertoire of 1984.
The piece Saudades de Sor is a jazz piece built around a chord progression of the 19th century composer Fernando Sor (1778 - 1839). It’s performed on a copy of one of Sor’s guitars, a Panormo of 1828. The only piece on this album by Jason is about James the Rover. While making this recording, James was ready suffering severe ailments. Of course we wish James
a fast recovering.
In The Finnish Finish some less frequent instruments in rock music, like a mandolin, a lute, a renaissance drum & a harpsichord can be heard. We hope you will appreciate our new album and enjoy listening to it!

About "Modinha"

Central theme on our new album is the "Modinha", which is originally a Brazilian sad song, relating the role fate is playing in our lives. It opposites the "Samba" in which all the lusts and joys of life are promoted. In a way the modinha is a song of Experience, while the samba might be regarded as a song of Innocence. I composed the melody of this modinha myself, because I couldn't find an appropriate one in existing folk literature. Like the Finnish folksong on our previous album, the Modinha is changing throughout the album, ranging from classic to folk to jazz and to metal.
Joy is dedicated to Holland's best progressive rock-keyboardist, the late Rick van der Linden. Keeper of the Keys is dedicated to the memory of Bob Moog, the world's greatest synthesizer-inventor ever. Stampede & Night on the Freeway are two new arrangements of the ZOUNDWORK-repertoire. The bonus track "Song for Lara" is a band-version of one of the pieces of my new keyboard-method. It's dedicated to Lara Vermeer, because she was my first pupil to play this new method.
A post humus thanks goes to Jorge Amado (1912 - 2001) for having written one of the most inspiring books of world literature "Mar Morto".
Finally I would like to thank all band members for their help and inspiration and making this album sound the way it does.

About "Beyond Time"

After three albums, all recorded with a complete band, "Beyond Time" is an early album on which all instruments are played by multi- instrumentalist Erik de Beer. Apart from lots of keyboards and guitars he is also taking care of the bass guitar and drum parts, while he also shows his skills on the flute, mandoline and the renaissance lute. The album is entirely instrumental and so are the two added live bonus tracks. The music on the album is all very symphonic and contains many beautiful melodic and majestic themes, performed both on the keyboards and the lead guitars. An acoustic gem is delivered with "Acceptance", which is almost like a prelude to the core piece of the album "Beyond Time", a piece of 17 minutes and 33 seconds, leading you through lots of beautiful themes, surprising interludes and containing many tempo and character changes.

Beyond Time

The original release was in the spring of 1994. The album was re-mastered in 2009.
Two live tracks are added: "Little Alice", an abridged version of a 1980 song played with BRANCARD in the early eighties. A complete new version can be found on the album
"The Finnishing Touch".
And "Last Run", an unreleased track from 1994.

Bio Erik de Beer

LIFE LINE PROJECT is a project in the true meaning of the word. It is built around one musician, Erik de Beer, either playing all instruments himself or contracting all the necessary vocalists or players according to the needs of the work in progress. Born in The Hague, Holland Erik started to play the guitar when he was 14 years old and keyboard at the age of 16. Right from the start his preference was symphonic rock. Erik started his studies at the conservatory for music in 1977 and finished them in 1983. He now works as a guitar & keyboard teacher. He developed himself as a multi-instrumentalist and composer.
