At 19, Kristinia DeBrage may be young but guys have been
kicking game to her since middle school. Last year DeBarge released her
debut album, "Exposed". Here, she tells us about Valentine's Days past
and what she's hoping this one brings.
Describe the best Valentine's Day
you've ever had.
Kristinia
DeBarge: When I went to New York and saw snow fall for the
first time. I was actually with Babyface. He took me out and we had a
nice talk. I think I was 15 at the time. I'm from L.A. so I was really
excited. It was a lot of fun.
What's the
best Valentine's Day gift you've received?
KD: I
had a best friend whose name was David. He gave me chocolates and
flowers and he left them on my doorstep on Valentine's Day. I was like
13. He had a big crush on me and I didn't like him, but I thought it was
really sweet. He had a note on it that said, "Meet me at the park." I
met him at the park, but I definitely told him that was sweet and left
it at that.
He just got a
friendly hug and a pat on the back?
KD:
Yeah. I didn't want to give him the wrong impression. But I thought that
was really sweet, No one had ever done that before.
Aside from you
lackluster Valentine's Days, has a guy ever given you a special gift?
KD: I
just got from vacation and that was a gift. We went to Mexico. It was
the sweetest thing ever. It was really greatest how he presented it to
me, too.
Do tell.
KD: He put my itinerary in this little cute card that
had purple ornaments on it. Purple's my favorite color. It said,
"Kristinia, I'm always telling you how I want to see the world with you,
so let's start." I screamed. I couldn't believe it. I thought I was
dreaming.
What are some
of your favorite love songs?
KD:
Let's go with Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely." I've always loved that
song. I love the Beatles' "And I Love Her." And Celine Dion's "My Heart
Will Go On." [Laughs] Every singer sings that song at least once in
their life, in an audition or something.
Do you have
any plans this Valentine's Day?
KD:
Not as of now. But I'm hoping that I will. I've never had a romantic
Valentine's Day. Maybe I will this year.
Are you
expecting that certain someone to do something this year? He must be
into surprises.
KD:
He likes to surprise me a lot. I don't know. Maybe he will. Maybe he
won't. We'll see.
