Singles Going Steady: Songs I can't get out of my head . "Love , Love , Love" (aka "I Can't Believe That") - Pere Ubu. (The VERY early Avant Garage number - Previously available only as a rough sounding live track) that makes an ass of a neighboring Devo - Who I KNOW I'm supposed to worship. Feh. Liked ' em all right coming up , just not enough to buy an album. NOW , PERE UBU ACTUALLY IMPROVED ON A SONG THAT WAS PUSHING THE 15 YEAR MARK , THROWING IN A CLASSIC "YOU'RE GONNA MISS ME/"CAN'T EXPLAIN" guitar riff. I CAN'T GET THE WHOLE LP "BE TRUE TO YOUR SCHOOL" BY THE CICHLIDS (1980 )OUT OF MY HEAD , EITHER. I finally found the # 1 song I could'nt get out of my head of all time (Read here , or see my blog.) . It's "Strange Boutique" by The Monochrome Set. First heard it in 1981 , and have wondered about it ever since....Could have found it much sooner , but , since the title is'nt mentioned in the song , I figured it was " I Wanna Be Your Devil", THE ACTUAL CHORUS. .......Silly bunt. "Buena" - Joe "King " Carrasco and The Crowns ( I saw Joe recently in Puerta Valarta. He has his own bar/restaurant where he performs with a little two piece band. If you're ever down there , look him up. What were you going to do at night anyway , see bad cover bands , go to a disco or to the Canadian Hockey Bar?) "Chicago" - Phantom Brothers (Germany) (A song about Chicago that 's NOT a Blues , by Non - Chicagoans. A - Plus.) "Stone Believer" - Iron Butterfly "Find Something Beautiful (And Set it on Fire)" - The Master Plan. 'I'm Addicted"- Le Roux. Briefly got Rock radio airplay in the early 80's. Not that it's such a great song , but , with benefit of hindsight , it almost sounds like Power Pop. It's real claim to fame was , when the guy sings "I'M ADDICTED , BABY", it alternately sounds like "I'm a DICKHEAD , baby!". A DJ even quietly intoned those words before playing it , once. And while we're talking about moderately successful Mainstream Rock , anybody remember "Strange Little Girl" by Sad Cafe? Not the Stranglers' song by the same name , which Tori Amos LOOKED great covering , anyway....I finally found it , as the title is'nt really in the song , I had to go thru a lot of 49 cent LPs..... OKAY , NOW we're getting so Mainstream Rock , I have to carry the (Recommended) Crazy World of Arthur Brown , a TRUE Rock screamer ,2 CD reissue to walk through the valley of "WAAAAAAAAAY DOOWWWWN INSIIIIDE!!!!!!"..... "Tried To Believe"by The Pat Travers Band. Go on , have a laugh on me. I just remember , my Brother used to have the album "Heat In The Street" , and lately , this song has been going off in my head , like a drippy faucet....So , when I saw it at 49 cents and not all beat to shit , I chucked my pride out the window. Come to find out , the album has it's moments. There's an instrumental that sounds even more like Motorhead than Thin Lizzy's last album , and a pretty decent Boogie number , too. Hell, Tommy Aldridge (From Black Oak Arkansas .) plays drums on it. I will live it down. "You're Gonna Be Mine" - New Colony Six . Like many of their early (Local) hits on Sentar , this sounds like 3 songs battling for possession of your mind. In my case , neither side would have to fight very hard. "Rap - A -Tap" - New Colony Six . Pushed the previous song out of my head , now , this won't go away. The "Laverne and Shirley " theme song. Do you know , they went as far as 1966? Talk about jumping the shark , backing up , and doing it again! "New Toy" Lene Lovich. OK , I'm going all New Wave on your ass. Who cares? It's not like I like all that 80's Dance crap that's inexplicably become popular again (Even for people who were'nt around then, it's inexplicable.).
