Happy Birthday, Mr. Wexler! I bet they're throwing you the best birthday bash in music heaven!

I had the honor of knowing Jerry in his golden years. He summered in East Hampton and I worked at his house fixing his water heater mostly. I'm blue collar yet he loved to tell me the stories behind the pictures I would notice on the walls. We first met in 1995 when after a phone conversation to my office, he personnally brought an autographed copy of Rhythm and the Blues and left it on my desk. He knew my love of Bottleneck Blues and gave me countless CD's to broaden my listening experience. He was a very giving man, arranged for me to receive an invitation to The Blues Foundation dinner where he was presented with the first lifetime achievement award. The last time I saw Jerry was at the East Hampton Post Office. I mentioned a John Prine song and he looked up, smiled and modestly said "I jump started his career ya know"
The Jerry Wexler I knew was not the Jerry he described of himself in his book. When we spoke, I was as important as anyone else he knew. At least that is how he always made me feel. I lost touch with him 3 years ago when I moved to Michigan. I miss him and words cannot describe the honor I feel to have called him my friend. Thank you for letting me share this in his memory. He was more than a great man, he was Jerry Wexler.

WOW, what a great page! We are truly honored to be included as friends.
Jerry was the greatest record man, ever and his body of work speaks for itself, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to express how much his music means to me, personally. Although, sadly, he is gone, that Sweet Soul Music will live forever!
This has got to be one of the greatest sites on Myspace. I am so honored to be a part of this miracle. Hugs from Nova.
All the best from all of us here in Muscle Shoals. We love Jerry! We'll miss Jerry, and he will always be considered one of the founding fathers of the Muscle Shoals Sound!
