It could be the signature of a hacker, plunging into the maelstrom of Matrix. Or the name of one of Philip K. Dick's cyber-heroes. In fact, the fky tag belongs to Francesco Cristaldi and his bass. A 45-year-old native of Minervino di Lecce in Italy,Francesco has been playing bass for twenty years; first, in the nineteen eighties, in the pop-jazz band Flying Foxes, then as a session musician for Francesco de Gregori, Claudio Baglioni, Roberto Vecchioni, Alberto Fortis, Anna Oxa, Ornella Vanoni, Loredana Berte, Pitura Freska, Paola Turci, Deep Forest, Lisa Hunt, Gianluca Grignani, Max Pezzali and many others. Francesco and his bass, faithful stage and recording studio sidekick, have also played a part in the experimental music of Roberto Cacciapaglia, Fausto Rossi and he co-produced the CD Questa parte di mondo of Paola Turci, Angeldom and Fiori sullo schermo futuro of Alberto Fortis. Now he is working with young talented musicians like Vittoria Hyde, Mariano Soriente and Alessandra Tornese. To close the circle for him and his bass,all that remains is the self-fulfilment of a solo project,he is working on,a soaring flight where Francesco can exploit his ideas and compositional talent to the full. And sensing this gap sparked a flash of intuition,the taste for freedom, the desire to test himself. So that's the challenge signed fky: a symbol Cristaldi can hide behind, with the session musician's typical modesty and honesty.
