  • Bio

EMMA JANE’S MONKEY MIND have put together a sound that is awe-inspiring as well as intriguing. The band describe their sound as “Bollybossapunk”- a term penned to convey Bossa Nova blended with Bollywood strings, Punk guitar and Primal beats.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ “Monkey Mind” is a Buddhist term which characterizes the mind as a being leaping from one thought to the next; like a monkey swinging from branch to branch. On discovering this concept Emma Jane finally felt she understood the incessant musings of her very own (Monkey) mind and knew the only name she could christen her band with was Emma Jane’s Monkey Mind! It’s where all her songs, ideas and inspiration ferment like fine vintage wine!----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Emma Jane’s Monkey Mind – Zanzibar - Thu, 6 Dec Emma Jane calls her music bollybossapunk (she should try and get a job at NME). We think it’s like sitting down at your favourite Indian restaurant when a Doc Martins-clad Liam Howlett bursts in with an acoustic guitar and stomps in all the chicken kormas before sitting down and snacking on a poppadom. Indian strings, big breaks, acoustic guitar and a soothing voice – what more do you want from a Thursday? By Daniel Fahey for VirtualFestivals.com .. .. .. In no particular order...The Cure, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Smiths, Cole Porter, PJ Harvey, Tim Burton, Bobbie Gentry, Depeche Mode, Kate Bush, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Edith Piaff, The Drellas.
  • Sounds Like

The illegitimate love child of Siouxsie Sioux and Iggy Pop who's surrogate parents were Edith Piaff and David Byrne. Reared on Bossa-Nova, Alternative Pop, Punk, Rock, Bollywood, Esquivel, The Cure, Cole Porter, Bowie, Talking Heads and The Muppets....kind of Tim Burton meets Faye Wray for cocktails in a small club in Paris where classically trained Indian musicians are playing Stooges covers, and over the course of the evening they have a beautiful, but eventful, love affair kind of a thing.
