Gurthang was created in early 2010 as death/doom metal one-man project. After a few months, the first demo entitled "Legions of Doom" was released. Unsatisfied with the result, as both songwriting and production were rather poor, Azathoth decided to change the sound of Guthang. Not much time had passed, since he found session bass player Stormalv, with whom he worked on other doom metal project called Cosmic Despair, and released second demo, which was heavily inspired by Howard Phillips Lovecraft novels. Simply called "II", this release was produced and mixed by Niall Doran. Even though the album had very smooth sound, Azathoth still wasn't completely satisfied with it. Later, keyboardist Sam joined the project and in March 2011 the first Gurthang EP was released by Swedish independent record label Salute Records. It was the very first work produced by Ahmad Agha, who kept mixing all subsequent works by Gurthang. For the next few months band recorded some more songs like "Irreverent Beholder" or two tracks for Gurthang/Innzmouth split that hasn't been released yet. In the middle of 2011 musicians finished recording their first full-lenght album entitled "Desolated in Darkness: volume.0" which was later released by Salute Records on CD and Ukrainian Depressive Illusions Records on tape. This second label later re-released all music that Gurthang has recorded so far. Also, two first demos were re-issued by Satanica Productions as one double-CD release. In the meantime keyboardist Sam left the band, and Azathoth was busy with recording another EP, entitled "Forgotten Deity", which will be released by Depressive Illusions Records both on CD and tape. After that, the new keyboardist joined the band - Demon ov Darkness. He was also the very first person in Gurthang allowed to write his own parts. Also, Stormalv was no longer just a session member - he became permanent Gurthang bassist. In the beginning of March 2012 two musicians joined the band: drummer N.W. and rhythm guitarist G.H. Year 2012 will bring the second album called "Infinite Void" containing way different music than this band recorded before. More psychedelic, with very deep and meaningful lyrics about reaching the end of existence. This production, considered by Azathoth as the greatest thing he has ever done, will be released soon by Lux Inframundis Productions. Also, special compilation containing all EPs and non-album tracks as well as some previously unreleased material will be released by Gris Records. Asgard Hass will produce 7'' LP split with Beyond Life (Pol) with whom Azathoth's working on special collaboration album which details hasn't been revealed yet...
