An original member of America's top tier Soccer league the MLS. On June 15th 1994 was introduced as one of the first 10 teams in MLS. And on April 13th 1996 in front of 25,266 in Ohio Stadium they beat DC United 4 to 0. On May 15th 1999 in front of a standing room only crowd of 24,741 the Crew christened the first major league stadium in America to be built specifically for soccer with a 2 to 0 win over the New England Revolution. Doug Logan, the MLS Commisioner at the time, hailed it as a "relaunching of the league." Soon after that other stadiums began to be built for their respective MLS teams that continues to this day. The Crew has won five major trophies: MLS Cup 2008, the 2004, 2008 and 2009 Supporters' Shields, given out to the team with the best regular season record(that would make them 3 Time champions in most leagues around the world) and the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Crew won the 2002 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup by defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy by a score of 1 to 0 at Columbus Crew Stadium. The game's lone goal was scored by Fredy Garcia. The Crew then won its first MLS Supporters' Shield during the 2004 in a tie-breaker over the Kansas City Wizards. During the 2008 MLS Season the Crew won its second Supporters' Shield by six points over Houston, en route to defeating the New York Red Bulls in MLS Cup 2008 by a score of 3 to 1. Guillermo Barros Schelotto assisted on all three Crew goals. The Crew has a long and rich history in MLS's short tenure, and it's better day's are ahead. So come along for the ride my friends.
